Vintage Introduction

Hi everyone, my name is Jenny Luo.
I live in Utah and I own a little vintage shop, Luoluv, on Etsy. I will like to welcome
you to my little blog about what Luo loves.
Here are the answers which people
asked me before:
What inspires you to open a vintage
shop?
First, my parents
passed down the love for vintage and antique to me. Especially after we moved
to United States. Since we learned Americans always sell their old stuff in
yard/garage/estate sales, my family went to yard sales religiously for sometime.
I definitely remember getting up 6 or 7 am in the morning to go to estate
sales. Of course, their collection is much different than mine. They love to
collect Asian antiques (before 1920s or Qing Dynasty), such as, rosewood
furniture, ivory, pottery and art. Along the way, I learned few skills from
them.
Second, my family
wasn’t well off in the beginning, so I wore a lot of second hand clothing.
Thrift shopping or hand me down clothes from family friends were the way to
find clothing.
Third, some of my
friends know I have a passion for history. Trust me, most history class is
boring and they will put you in sleep. However I had 3 very passionate history
teachers during my school years, Mr. Sander, Kyle Mathews and Chad Ostler. They
made history sounds like intriguing story but it is completely non-fiction. That’s
why I love to find more history behind the vintage clothing that I found.
Why vintage clothing?
I thought about
selling antique or vintage knick knock but I am afraid of breaking the item during
the shipping process so I decided on vintage clothing. Believe it or not, your
grandmas or your mothers do have exquisite tastes for clothing! Going through
someone’s closet can tell you a lot about the person. Is this person like to
stay with the trend? Or is this person style classy and dress modest? Was this
person tall and curvy? Or this person was a petite lady? It made me feel like
Sherlock.
Who helped me along the way?
I have a friend
who sold hand made item on Etsy for a while. He taught me the basics how to do
listing and shipping on Etsy.
Can't never forget my friends who made time to model my vintage. Also I made some new friends on Instagram who helped and supported me.
Every time I have
difficulties to date vintage clothing, Vintage Fashion Guild helped me. I love
their passion, knowledge and research skills. It is absolutely inspiring!
My husband doesn’t
like old stuff as much as I do unless it is vintage comic. However he helped me
a lot along the way. He made the cloth rack to hang all the vintage clothing
and setup my little workroom. Also he bought the Nikon D3300 for me. He always
joked to our friends that the estate sales are the only reason I can get up
early in the morning.
